Permanent Burn Ban Remains in Effect for Water Island

U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS – The Virgin Islands Fire and Emergency Medical Services (VIFEMS) reminds the public that Water Island remains under a permanent burn ban. The recent updates regarding the lifting of the territory-wide burn ban do not apply to this island.

While certain burn restrictions have been eased across St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix due to improved weather conditions and fire risk assessments, open burning of any kind remains strictly prohibited on Water Island. This longstanding policy remains in effect to protect the island’s natural landscape and ensure the safety of the community.

VIFEMS urges all residents and property owners on Water Island to continue adhering to the burn ban and to utilize alternative methods of waste disposal. Non-compliance may result in fines or other enforcement actions in accordance with territorial fire codes.
