VIFEMS Commissions Seven New Ambulances

U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS – The Virgin Islands Fire and Emergency Medical Services (VIFEMS) held an Ambulance Blessing Ceremony today, marking the formal commissioning of seven newly acquired ambulances into service. The units will be deployed throughout the Territory to strengthen emergency medical response and support community safety.

The ambulances were acquired using grant funding through the Health Resources and Services Administration, administered through the United States Department of Health. Three units will serve St. Croix, three will serve St. Thomas, and one will be assigned to St. John.

The newly acquired ambulances include upgraded safety and medical features designed to support patient care and responder safety. These features include four-wheel drive capability, collision prevention systems, power-lift stretchers with loaders, advanced lighting, onboard technology and additional enhancements.

“While I am sometimes given credit for changes across the Territory, the reality is that progress happens when all of us work together to move the Virgin Islands forward. That is what we are acknowledging today,” said Governor Albert Bryan Jr. “I am proud of the many improvements taking place across the Government of the Virgin Islands.

Lieutenant Governor Tregenza A. Roach, Esq. reminded residents of their role in supporting emergency response efforts.

“When you hear sirens, please pull over and allow our responders to pass so they can meet life-saving needs,” Roach said.

VIFEMS Director Antonio O. Stevens emphasized that the acquisition and deployment of the ambulances was a collaborative effort across government agencies.

“This effort was not accomplished internally alone. I would like to thank our partner agencies, including the Virgin Islands Department of Property and Procurement and the Virgin Islands Department of Health. The work required coordination across government, and I am appreciative of that shared commitment,” Director Stevens said.

The Ambulance Blessing Ceremony reflects VIFEMS’ continued commitment to providing timely, reliable care to residents throughout the Territory and strengthening emergency medical response capabilities.
