VIFEMS Responds to Brush Fire Along South Shore Road

ST. CROIX, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS – On Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at approximately 3:40 p.m., the Virgin Islands Fire and Emergency Medical Services (VIFEMS) responded to reports of a brush fire along South Shore Road in the vicinity of Ha’Penny Beach.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a rapidly spreading brush fire in a vacant lot. Crews immediately began efforts to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to surrounding areas.

Additional units were dispatched to assist in bringing the fire under control. Firefighters used multiple hose lines and hand tools to extinguish the fire.

The fire was brought under control with no injuries reported and no damage to nearby properties. The cause of the fire was determined to be an act of nature.

VIFEMS reminds the public that a territorial burn ban remains in effect until further notice due to dry vegetation and high winds across the U.S. Virgin Islands. These conditions continue to increase the risk of fires spreading quickly. Residents and visitors are urged to avoid all outdoor burning and immediately report signs of smoke or fire by calling 911.

VIFEMS remains committed to rapid response, effective fire suppression, and the protection of life and property across the Territory.
